The cost of a hotel room at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square: about $200 a night. The motivated feeling you get while working out with a view of Times Square: priceless!
A few weeks ago, I visited New York City and had a chance to stay at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square for a few evenings. One of the highlights of visiting this hotel is its fitness center, which overlooks Times Square. (I know, only the Fit and Well Atlanta Belle would be excited about a hotel gym…)
Cardio equipment lines the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Times Square, so I usually opt for a treadmill on this side of the gym. However, there is additional cardio equipment on the other side of the fitness center, which overlooks the interior of the hotel. (Click here to see photos from the gym on the FWAB Facebook page.)
What’s sad is that I usually do a workout in the gym before I spend the day walking 10 to 15 miles around the city (more about that in a future blog…). My philosophy is the more calories I’ve burned, the more food I can enjoy during the day’s explorations. But a view like this makes a 30 minute run on the treadmill much more enjoyable.
On this trip, I ran and then did about 30 minutes of resistance training in the weight area, which is quite impressive for a hotel gym. There are weight machines, a cable machine, free weights, kettlebells, medicine balls a BOSU Balance Trainer — and any other toy that a fitness nut might desire.
The bottom line? If you’re looking for a centrally located hotel with nice rooms — and a FWABulous fitness center — give this Marriott a try. The great view and the choice of cardio and resistance training equipment make this a “hit!”
