A fully stocked bar, a menu that includes dishes ranging from brick oven pizzas to specialty salads, personalized service — and bowling? Yep. It’s all part of the VIP bowling experience at the new Stars and Strikes in Sandy Springs.
Recently, I was invited to spend a Saturday evening at the boutique bowling spot in the burbs. (Disclaimer, folks, our evening was paid for by Stars and Strikes.) And as the Fit and Well Atlanta Belle, I’m always game for a night that involves something active.
As Mark and I walked through the doors, we were surrounded by kids and tweens enjoying a night of bowling and games. And then it happened.
We were whisked through another set of double doors into the VIP area: the Blue Room. Behind these doors are eight private lanes, a bar area — and a much more peaceful environment. According to the Stars and Strikes website, the area becomes 21 and over on Fridays and Saturdays after 8 p.m.
After enjoying a few drinks at the bar (there’s top-shelf liquors and yummy beers such as Shocktop), we ordered some fried green beans and spinach and artichoke dip. (I decided to indulge this evening, but there are healthier options on the menu like salads.)
When our lane was ready, Mark and I settled into the private lane with custom “sofas” and a waitress who regularly checked on us to see if we needed anything. There are huge screen TVs at the end of each lane, so that you don’t miss whatever football or other game might be going on. Simply put, if I’m going to bowl, this is how I want to do it.
Three games, a flat bread pizza, and one broken shellacked nail later, we braved our way out into the main area to try our hand at some of the games in the arcade area. Boy, have things changed since the days of Ms. Pac-Man. With all of the alien-hunting and motorcycle games, it’s no surprise that we felt most at home playing skee-ball.
Although this wouldn’t be an every-week kind of date night, we had a blast! This VIP experience is a definite “fit,” and I think you should shell out the additional cash to reserve one of these extra special lanes.
