A Little Peace at Pride: Spa V at the Victor Hotel

I've never needed a massage as badly as I did during a recent visit to South Beach — thank God for Spa V at the Hotel Victor

I was in Miami visiting the Hotel Victor for an article I'm working on for the upcoming "White Hot Summer" issue of Urban Lux Magazine. Although my contacts with the hotel were wonderful about arranging all of the details of the trip, no one mentioned that I would be visiting during the chaos of the Miami Beach Pride celebration.

Now, hey — I don't mind a good party or a dance club for a few hours, but then I like to escape back to the peace and quite of my home. But Pride is a hard-core party that lasts from sun up to sun down. Translation? The bass from the DJ stage across the street was so strong that it vibrated through my room — and me — from sun up to sun down for the majority of the time I was in SoBe.

With that said, I was thankful that I had a massage lined up (disclaimer, kids, the massage was on the house), which allowed me to escape to the basement of the hotel (where the chaos outside was nonexistent). First off, I should mention that I had to reschedule my initial appointment because of a flight delay coming into Miami. But the staff was fabulous and rescheduled me for the following day in a second.

As I mentioned, the spa was in the basement, so the environment was dark and calming. After donning my spa robe and slippers, I headed to the relaxation room, which was filled with comfy chaise lounges. (There was also herbal tea available for your enjoyment.) If you're looking to make an afternoon out of your visit, the spa also offers a steam room and a Hammam (think co-ed Turkish steam bath).

Then came the Relax Me massage with Enrique — a man of few words. But what he lacked in chattiness, he made up for in massage technique. For an hour, Enrique combined both stretching with massage (and the occasional hot towel) in a way that left my super tight and achy upper back, in particular, feeling relieved.

When he finished, I was physically ready — but mentally reluctant — to return to the party above. (What can I say, I'm not much of a party girl.) Would I go back on my own dime? Absolutely a fit belle "fit." Initially, I was scheduled for a female massage therapist, but I'm so glad that plans changed. I needed to be kneaded, and Enrique did a rocking job of that.

Until next Tuesday — stay FWABulous! And keep up with my FWABulous adventures on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.
