Staying Balanced in Nashvegas: The Erin Oprea Fitness Program at Loews Vanderbilt

An exercise ball and resistance tube — it always amazes me how little it takes to create a workout that makes your body hurt so good.

This little reminder came to me during a recent stay at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in Nashville. (I was visiting the hotel for an upcoming Urban Lux article — stay tuned for the October issue!) The sleep spot recently launched a new in-room fitness program created by Erin Oprea, a trainer to celebs like Carrie Underwood.

One day, I wanted to try the new program in place of my usual run/walk outside. After making a quick phone call, a yoga matt, exercise ball, resistance band, and step-by-step exercise program instructions were delivered to my door. Most of the exercises outlined in the program were old favorites of mine, including mountain climbers and lateral raises with the resistance band. I also liked that Oprea included combination moves like a lunge and row move that incorporated the band. 

The program tells you to do each exercise for 10+ reps or for “x” number of seconds, and to repeat each for three to four sets. Trust me, I felt the burn. I love that this hotel is making it so easy for guests to stay fit!! And in addition to the in-room program, the hotel also had a fully equipped fitness center (loved that there were goodies like complimentary chilled water and fresh fruits available to people working out!). But, honestly, I'd rather work out in my room or go for a walk or a run on the lush Vanderbilt University campus, which is just across the street from the Loews.

One other thing to mention for my fit and well folks — the hotel's main restaurant, Mason's, offers a variety of menu items (that Executive Chef Brandon Frohne and Oprea collaborated on) that follow specific nutritional guidelines like being low in sugar, low in sodium, high in protein, or include healthy fats. Examples include a Persian breakfast frittata with shaved asparagus, dried cherries and chickpea mash, and blackberry peach pie crepes with skim milk ricotta and pistachio granola. 

All I can say is from food to fitness options, the Loews Vanderbilt gets an enthusiastic "fit" from me!
