“This is the perfect way to start a Sunday.” That was the thought going through my mind as I flowed through another sun salutation during my pre-beach day yoga class at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa.
I recently had a chance to visit the Ft. Lauderdale resort for an article I wrote for American Fitness Magazine (so, disclaimer, y’all, much of the trip was hosted by the resort). And one of my favorite things about it was the impressive fitness center in the spa.
Typically, when I’m at the beach, I do not gravitate toward working out inside. But, in addition to the classes offered, which include yoga, Zumba, and indoor cycling, this fitness center offers up a ton of resistance training gear and a million dollar view of the Atlantic from the cardio equipment. It is a fitness fan’s dream.
But, back to my 50-minutes of peace and yoga…My instructor, Lianna, did an excellent job of guiding us through the basic class that was focused on holding poses and breathing. By the end, I was relaxed and ready to plop down on my beach towel for the afternoon.
One thing to know if you’re interested in the classes or using any of the water sport equipment like paddle boards or sea kayaks, opt to pay the $25 daily fee. In addition to high-speed internet access and two resort signature cocktails, you also get one beach umbrella rental, one-hour rental of nonmotorized water sport equipment per day, two fitness classes per room per day, and a one-hour snorkeling tour for two guests per stay. Otherwise, classes are $15 each or complimentary if you’re receiving a 50-minute spa service that day.
The bottom line? If you’re looking for a South Florida destination that does a good job of bringing you the beach and your favorite workout options, this is a “fit” for you!
