Barre Class Augusta Style: A Visit to Oxygen Fitness

Blueberry pancakes made by my mama — and a Cardio Barre class taught by Amy Iannacone at Oxygen Fitness Studio. Sometimes, it’s the simple things that make for the best weekends.

A few weeks ago, I headed home to Augusta (which became my home in college when my godmother moved there, followed by my mom years later) for a visit. And whenever I go to Augusta, my favorite spot to workout is Oxygen.

The owners, Amy and Rich, have done an awesome job of bringing a boutique fitness studio to the city. You’ll find barre, spin, high-intensity interval training, and hot yoga class options. And even better — the barre class formats are based on exhale studio’s training, so I feel right at home.

During this visit, I opted for the Saturday morning cardio barre class with Amy. (Disclaimer folks, she did host me.) What I love about this format is that in an hour, you get to enjoy the best of both worlds. For the first 30 minutes, Amy pushed us through cardio intervals and resistance training. And then the second 30 minutes, my “thass” was thoroughly kicked with your traditional barre class movements for the core, legs, and butt. (FYI, you don’t need shoes for this one. Sticky socks are optional for the first half, and I wanted them for the second part.)

I left the studio ready to take on the day — and mom’s amazing pancakes (which technically I didn’t eat until the next morning, but I felt much less guilty doing so because of this class!). My verdict? A definite “fit” if you’re headed to Augusta!
