A Salad with a Side of SculptHouse

“Just five more seconds.” That was the thought going through my mind as I focused every fiber of my being on knocking out one more of a move called the French Twist — an exercise with a name that makes it sound way friendlier than it is.

Welcome to the 12:15 p.m. Thursday StrengthSculpt at SculptHouse with Megan. I’ve been meaning to get my butt into one of the classes at Buckhead’s newest fitness studio additions, and recently was finally able to make it happen. (Disclaimer, y’all, the studio did host me for the class.)

So, where to start? Well, first off, this studio features one heck of a boutique. I mean, they have put together an amazing selection of the trendiest, most fashionable activewear I have seen in Atlanta. So, bring your credit cards, ladies. And the whole space is just gorgeously designed in clean and modern whites. I felt like I had been transported to NYC. (Don't miss the freebies at the desk, which include hair ties and lip balm. Love.)

The studio itself features the latest models of Megaformer trainers (which is the only machine used during the class I took). In case you’re not familiar, the Megaformer is a machine that uses springs and cables to provide you with a full-body workout. It’s Pilates — on crack. And I love it. But SculptHouse offers other class formats that incorporate the self-propelled Curve treadmills. (I’ve used them at other studios, and they provide a workout unlike any treadmill you’ve ever been on.) I'm thinking I'll need to get back and try one of those classes...

Now to the class I took on this lunch break. For 50 minutes, Megan trained our core, then one leg, then arms, then the other leg, and finished up with a little more core work. You are basically going through movements for 30 seconds to a minute with some holds and pulsing in between. Not only did I love Megan’s 90s-inspired playlist, but I also appreciated that she was constantly walking around and correcting our form to make sure everyone in the class was doing the exercises correctly.

By the end of the class, I felt like my butt had thoroughly — and literally — been kicked. My verdict? Pay the $15 (for a first-time class) and check it out. It’s a workout that you can’t do at home that will easily provide bang for your buck. “Fit!”
