Ahi tuna tostadas. Pimento cheese with bacon jam. Smoked pulled pork enchilada. After a long week, my recent dinner at Food 101 was just what my spirit and my stomach needed.
As I’ve mentioned before, my wellness plan is all about balance. And enjoying the foods I love (e.g., butter, carbs, chips and queso) in moderation is key to maintaining this balance. So, when I was invited to try the new menu at Food 101, I happily accepted the invitation. (Disclaimer, y’all, the restaurant did host me for this meal.)
If you’d prefer to stay on the healthy straight and narrow, this spot offers plenty of good choices for dinner including a local greens and citrus salad and grilled salmon. But, I wanted to try some of the more indulgent options.
First, I kicked things off with a Southern Mule cocktail (made with one of my faves — American Spirit Whiskey). My starters included the grilled oysters with green garlic butter and those tostadas I mentioned. (Yum!) These delightful tastes were followed by the enchilada I also referred to, which is HUGE BTW, paired with a lovely glass of wine (they have a great by-the-glass selection). Oh, and Chef Ryan Smith also served up the skirt steak with smashed potatoes and mushrooms for me to try. They didn’t have to twist my arm too hard to accept.
Last but not least, in addition to the delicious food, the service was spot on. I left this “fit” with a full belly and a smile on my face.
