As soon as I saw the deep soaking tub in the spa suite, I had a feeling that the Digital Detox treatment at the spa at the Mandarin Oriental Atlanta would be for me.
Recently, the spa invited me to try the detox (so, yes, y’all, I was hosted for the treatment). When I arrived, I was invited to stow my phone (and any other digital distractions) away for the duration of my visit. And after donning my spa uniform of sandals and a robe, it was time for the 80-minute treatment.
First off, I selected an essential oil (Awaken) to be paired with my bath and the massage to come later while sipping on water infused with Shungite crystals. According to the spa folks, Shungite is the only known stone to contain Fullerenes, which work to neutralize negative energy, including exposure to radiation from mobile devices. Next came my favorite part — a 20 minute soak in a beautiful bathtub filled with Shungite-charged water to relieve fatigue and revitalize my worn out body. (The therapist did leave the suite for this portion of the treatment.)
The bath was followed up by a massage that focuses on the head, eyes, neck, shoulders, and hands (all of the areas that are fatigued by our ongoing addiction to all things digital). And finally, there is a foot massage and paraffin wax treatment for the hands — basically, the icing on the treatment cake.
What can I say, y’all? This “fit” left me feeling relaxed and ready to take on the world again. And it left me wondering why every spa treatment can’t include a nice bath in a deep soaking tub.
