A Shoe that Puts the Spring Back In My Step

There is nothing like the refreshing, cushiony, bouncy feeling that you get when you put on a new pair of running shoes — a feeling that I was reminded of when I bought a new pair of sneaks a few weeks ago.

Now, before I tell you more about this magical pair of kicks, let me say that I’ve always worked out in running shoes. Yes, you can buy cross-trainers and a host of other types of sneakers, but I’ve always liked the selection and cushiony comfort of running shoes.

And I’ve tried a lot of them. For a while it was Nikes, but they didn’t provide enough cushion. I wore Adidas Supernovas for a while, and they weren’t bad. But then I discovered New Balances.

I started with the good old grey and white New Balance (NB) 993s. I loved them, but I didn’t want to pay almost $150 when I needed to replace my shoes every six months. Next, I went with the NB 860 V2s, because I was able to get a great deal on these with a Groupon. Unfortunately, this shoe was a FWAB “miss,” given they didn’t provide as much cushion and bounce as I like.

A few weeks ago, it was time to head to Dick’s Sporting Goods to find a new pair of kicks. When I put the NB 890 V2s on, it felt like I was walking on a spring-loaded floor — my feet felt like they could run a 10K and keep going. (And they were $90 on sale, which fell into my less than $100 price range.) But there was a compromise to be made.

I have never been a big fan of, shall we say, “colorful” running shoes. The pair of 860 V2s that I had had some pink mixed in with the primarily white color scheme, and I thought that was getting a little sassy. The 890 V2s, as you can see in the photo above, are hard to miss with their fluorescent yellow and purple coloring. I look like a die-hard LSU Tigers or LA Lakers fan.

But the appearance of these shoes is growing on me. These kicks not only look like two tennis balls on my feet — they make my feet feel as bouncy as tennis balls! And I’ve noticed that all of the Olympians running track seem to be wearing fluorescent yellow shoes, so I guess I’m hip to the latest trend. These shoes get the Fit Belle “fit” of approval!
